{snow days are a good day for catching up!}

It's true. I haven't blogged for months {and I'm ashamed to say so...}! :/ I guess it took a 'snow day' to set my priorities straight. Well, that and the countless emails, texts, facebook messages and glares. {juuuuust kidding.} Either way, here I am: blogging! But where should I start? These last many months have been crazy. Seriously.

September:
In September I started a Masters program for my MBA. I love(d) the challenge, focus, and of course meeting people! Oh and I finally got a MacBook. Joy! And, my lovely little sis (that I spoke about HERE) moved to Paris. Oui !!!

October:
I met some more Army wives. They are fantastic! It's a nice feeling to be able to relate to those around you! Also, Anthony took me to see AUTUMN!! We had to drive a couple hours north, but it was worth it. :)

{Mister spontaneously took me on a two hour drive, so I could see some fall colors! It was SO worth it!!}

{I also made up this yummy pumpkin soup (with a dollop of plain yogurt). The flavors brought

some yummy comfort to the fall season!}

November:
I spent Thanksgiving with some local friends as my husband had to travel home last minute. Admittedly, it was a hard week. But, I had fun with friends and enjoyed some yummy food! Because Mister was going to be gone, we started decorating for Christmas early! It made my heart so happy and so cozy! ;)

December:
Christmas! Need I say more? I love the Christmas season!! Our decorated house was so cozy. And, this was going to be the first year Mister and I spent Christmas morning at our own place, with just the two of us! BUT....gotta love the Army! He had to work on Christmas, so we ended up celebrating on the 24th. So, I filled my home with Christmas cookies and delivered them to some of our neighbors that couldn't go home for the holiday either! It was actually a lot of fun. So no complaints. :)

January:
This past month was a doozy. School was going strong, life was on path and then bam! My dear Mister received Deployment orders. :/ Also, though I was doing well in school, I just made the decision last week to put further classes on hold. It's good. I promise! I can start them back up, but I need life to settle down a bit. One thing that has helped with the stress is a Treadmill!!! Yes, we got one. And it's awe-some! It was our Christmas and Anniversary gift!

{I feel so blessed to be married to my best friend! 3 years already, and yet at the

same time, it feels like I've always been married to him.}

Current:
So here I am at the beginning of February, facing the mountain of another deployment, enjoying every moment I have with my Mister while I can, trying to keep our home cozy (even with the lit Christmas Tree all put away), continuing to dust like crazy - thanks to the never ending dusty wind that this city offers, reading a lot, and knitting even more. And today...enjoying our first snow day!

You're all caught up and I'm sure suffering from an overload of information!!!

{eat your veggies}

I love vegetables. I've been off of meat completely since July (I know...shocker that I didn't quit earlier, since I've been talking about it since I was 10). In doing so, I've had so much fun adding in new vegetables, and therefore new flavors and nutrients to the table. Trust me...it takes a bit of creativity!! What has made me so happy is that Mister has been such a supporter. He even requested that we stick to veggie dinners. And then last week told me that, "he never knew being a vegetarian could be so flavorful". What a compliment, considering he's a hardcore carnivore. {Don't worry people, he still gets meat at lunch and sometimes breakfast. More than enough.}

ANYWAY...one of my new favorite vegetables is bok choy {also known as Chinese white cabbage}. I've always intended to use it, but never got around to it...until now. It's excellent in stir-fry, soups or even better - to preserve the cancer-risk-reducing nutrients, eat it raw! I love steaming it lightly and drizzling vinegar/oil and pepper over the top. The flavor is light and compliments most things. But the best part of bok choy, is the high vitamin A, vitamin C, beta-carotene, calcium, fiber and potassium nutrients. Oh, and if you're not already convinced to try it: a cup of shredded bok choy has 1/2 of your daily needs for the high vitamins listed.

{pretty, pretty pale pink, rhubarb drink}

One of my newest favorite chefs is Laura Calder. I've tried a couple of her recipes and read through several more. I love her French food, cooking techniques and ever familiar "comfort" recipes. One that I just learned from her is Rhubarb Water. I don't have a daughter yet, but one day...this pretty, pretty pale drink will be served at one of her tea parties.

This recipe is SUPER easy...it just takes some time. And, though I originally followed the recipe to a T, I did end up diluting it even more, as I didn't like it so sweet. Here's what to do:

what you need...
2lbs Rhubarb, largely cubed
water to cover Rhubarb, boiling (about 4 cups)
Half Lemon, juiced
3/4 C sugar (I used 1/4 Cup and even more water than the recipe called for.)

what to do...

Cube rhubarb and place is a heat proof bowl. Poor boiling water over the rhubarb. Let cool (when finally room temperature, move to fridge for over night). The boiling water releases the color from the rhubarb and scents it with a delicate flavor. The next day strain rhubarb and re-boil the rhubarb water (discard the rhubarb). Add in sugar and lemon juice, boiling until fully combined. Chill completely and serve. After completely chilled, make sure the flavor is to your liking.

*Add more lemon if you need or more water if it's too sweet. For me...I liked just the essence of the rhubarb and definitely preferred it less sweet.

This drink is PRETTY and YUMMY!

Who else was glued to the TV last night, waiting for the results of the next Design Star?! Or should I ask...who wasn't!?! Now, I don't claim to know anything about design; my area of love is food. {That being said, I long to have a clue about it. } I love to be surrounded by beauty. Beauty in my home, beauty on a plate: it's all wonderful. The Next Design Star, always "has me at hello". And Emily Henderson {The Brass Petal}?! Well, she was on my radar almost immediately. {Probably everyone is saying that now. I get it. But I don't care. Let's just say when I found out she was a prop stylist and has done plenty of table-scapes...I became an immediate fan!} Check out some of these gorgeous moments for insight to why I fell in love....

Congratulations, Emily on your success and new show!!! Your fantastic sense of style, hard work and amazing design sense is a true talent!

{fish tacos w/ spicy red cabbage + a cool white sauce}

This easy recipe delivers on taste!!! In fact, Mister made me promise to make this again soon. Here's what I did....I used cod (but any hearty white fish could work). As I love bringing the flavors of all the dishes together, I pulled the spices from the red cabbage slaw below. On each fillet, I sprinkled a bit of oregano, cumin, chili powder, garlic, salt and pepper and then dusted with a bit of flour. Then I put it in a hot, hot skillet with a bit of oil and cooked until golden and delicious. As for the rest...

white sauce:

1/2 C plain yogurt
1/2 C mayo
1 lime - juiced
1 jalapeño - minced
1 tsp capers - minced
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp dill weed
1 tsp cayenne pepper

*Combine and refrigerate until needed. Best if made in advance, as it will have time to 'firm up' in the fridge.

spicy red cabbage slaw:

1/4 red cabbage, thinly sliced or shredded
1/8 tsp dried oregano
1/8 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp chili powder
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
juice of 2 limes {one and a half....if super juicy}
hot pepper sauce, to taste

*Combine and refrigerate until needed.

The fish tacos are perfectly piled, as such: white corn tortillas, some of the red cabbage, perfectly moist fish, white sauce and a bit of cilantro. Miam. Miam. {Yum!}

As I mentioned before, I'm a firm believer in serving complimentary side dishes. And particularly bringing similar flavors across the plate. So, as for what to serve with these tacos..I made a cold mexican salad: diced tomato, avocado, red onion, cilantro and a bit of lime juice. (It's great eaten as a fork or dipped up with chips.)

{zucchini and potato latkes}

Last week our pantry was dwindling...and when that happens, I generally pull out "breakfast for dinner!!". Ha! {I'm sure that I'm not alone in that department.} But, what was even worse was I had 3 eggs, no bread and a bunch of veggies. I especially wanted to use up some zucchini that I had. Knowing that Mister would want some level of carbs, I had remembered some potato and onion latkes that my dear Aunt {Linda Diamond} had made out one of our family gatherings. Zucchini would add to the perfect paring.

What you need:

1 large potato (1/2 lb), peeled
1 large zucchini (1/2 lb), ends trimmed
1/3 C diced onion
1 large egg
1 tsp kosher salt
Black pepper
2-4 Tbs Olive Oil

1. Shred potato and zucchini. Add onion, egg and seasoning. Mix well. {The mixture will oxidize quickly and brown slightly.}
2. Heat 2 tbs of the olive oil, using low heat. Spoon in the mixture, creating 3" pancake disks. Cook 7-10 minutes, turn over for an additional 6 minutes (ish).
3. Cooking slowly creates a crisp crust with a creamy inside.

4. If you want some "extra" yumminess, add a dollop of plain yogurt or sour cream.

The result was perfect! {And as Mister thought so....it's pretty much the best compliment I could ask for!!}.

While in Idaho, I had the opportunity to learn how to dye yarn. It was a fun experience!!!! And, I'm entirely excited to try it again. A longtime friend knew that I would love to learn. She gathered the products and walked me through the process. Here are the results of my first experiment...

{sweet treat tuesday: molasses spice cookies}

My go-to cookie is not Malasses Spice. Nope. Nada. Non. But, after this week....it may very well be at the top of my list. Mister had a sweet tooth and as I was just about out of everything in my pantry, including chocolate chips, etc...I decided to pull out a newbie. Now, for many of you this recipe is not new. But, for me, it is! {I love firsts...!} If you've never tried it, do yourself a favor and indulge, and if you have, don't forget about this simply, yummy treat. :)

you need...
1/2 C, plus 1/3 C sugar
2 1/4 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp allspice*
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 sticks butter, softened {not a figure friendly cookie... :) }
1/3 C dark brown sugar*
1 large egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 C molasses {dark or light, okay}

1. Set oven to 375 degrees (rack in middle). Spread 1/2 C sugar in a shallow dish for coating - set aside.

2. Whisk flour, baking soda, spices, pepper and salt together. Set aside.
3. Beat butter, brown sugar and remaining 1/3 C sugar in a large bowl, until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes). Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla until combined. Beat in the molasses until incorporated (make sure to scrape down sides of the bowl, as needed).

P.S. Dipping your hands in water when rolling dough, helps prevents stickiness and helps adhere the sugar. So.......

4.Using wet hands, roll 2 tbsp of dough into balls, then roll in sugar and lay on parchment-lined baking sheets (about 2" apart). Bake until the edges are set and the tops are cracked but the centers are still soft (underdone). The cookies harden as they cool. Bake approx 10-12 minutes, rotating sheet halfway through.
5. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then serve warm or transfer.

*I found this recipe via here, but as usual made some changes. I didn't have allspice, so just added some extra dashes of the ginger, cinnamon and cloves. I also only had light brown sugar on hand.

This cookie would be yummy with a glaze over top or with some orange essence/zest whipped in.

In other news...

Besides the fact that I've been trying to find a job, (but seriously need to learn Spanish if I'm going to be a contender...) I've been knitting! Here's a picture of my current project (I'm about half done), for a little baby who should be meeting this world in a couple of weeks. It's a half blanket - perfect for a car seat. The photo doesn't do the color justice (color requested by the mum to be), but the pattern is displayed well!

Have you heard of LUSH? I had heard about it while living in Seattle, but never took the time to check it out. {blast!} Luckily, during our recent trip to Scottsdale, my maman {mom} and two younger sisters and I were shopping. My sisters wandered in and knew that I would be swooning. What's not to love? 1) products, products, products and 2) all-natural/organic = PERFECTION. Yes, Lush: Fresh Handmade Cosmetics. {Can you hear my heart singing?!}

Some of our favorite products included a luscious hand {or foot} treatment:

{sweet treat tuesday: summer fruit tart}

Yes - I told you that I was back...and with it comes some good recipes!!! I just made this the other night and Mister was swooning with delight. {I know something is good when he takes a bite of something and without any effort says a quiet "yummmmm".} ...music to my ears!

{This -obvious- photo is from the cookbook....though I have some personal pictures below, we got so excited to eat it and failed to take a photo of the end result!!! Trust me....it looked THIS good!}

I love this tart because it's so much like the essence of summer {to me at least}. What do I mean?! It's a free-form tart...meaning, no pie dish or tart dish is needed. And the crust...it's perfect against the fruity center. This recipe came from one of my favorite cookbooks - The America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook, Heavy-Duty Revised Edition All credit for this can only go to them...and they deserve it!

DOUGH
2 tbls sour cream
2 tbls ice water
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup fine-ground cornmeal (it makes a difference!!)
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
7 tbls unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (chilled)

FILLING
3 cups mixed berries - or pitted stone fruit, cut into 1/4 inch slices
2-3 tbls sugar
2 tbls unsalted butter, cubed into small pieces
1 tbls water

1. For the dough: stir the sour cream and water together in a small liquid measuring cup and refrigerate until needed. Process the flour, cornmeal, sugar, and salt in a processor until combined. (I used a blender, as i don't have a food processor). :( Scatter half of the butter pieces over the top and process, using short pulses. Scatter remaining butter and continue to incorporate. Continue to pulse, while pouring the sour cream mixture through the feed tube, until dough just comes together. Turn dough onto a sheet of plastic wrap and press into a 6-inch disk. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

2. When ready to roll and bake the tart, preheat oven to 400 degrees (adjust oven rack to middle position). Roll the dough between 2 large sheets of parchment paper (NOT WAX PAPER!!!). Roll out into a 13-inch round. Slide the dough, still between the parchment paper, onto a baking sheet and refrigerate until firm...about 20 minutes.

3. For the filling: discard the top sheet of parchment and pile the fruit in the center. Leave a 2 to 3 inch border. {I used frozen fruit that I had...so defrosted it first.}

Sprinkle 1 to 2 tablespoons of the sugar over the fruit (depending on how tart the fruit tastes) and dot with the butter.

4. Fold the edges of the dough over the fruit. Brust the top of the tart with water and sprinkle with remaining tablespoon of sugar {I used raw sugar}. ...This below picture is pre-water/sugar.

5. Bake until the crust is golden brown and crisp and the fruit is bubbling, about 40 minutes. Transfer the baking sheet to a wire rack and let tart cook for 10 minutes. Slide tart off the baking sheet and cool on the rack until warm or room temp, before serving. Add a some homemade whipping cream and your heart will be ever so happy!!

{P.S. Tart dough differs from pie dough. It should have a crisp texture...not flaky. Definitely use this dough recipe for free standing tarts. It's sturdy enough to hold up to the juices, etc.}

{home knit home}

I'm home. :) And though I'm happy to be back in my routine {which I haven't truly gotten back to...} I'm longingly remembering my recent trip to Scottsdale. Our whole family joined for a perfect little vacation. I love my family. Seriously.

Through all of my adventures this summer, I still managed to find time to knit. {My newest obsession...}I'm knitting through my entire home. A great place to start: the kitchen! These washcloths are so scrumptious to the touch. Made from organic cotton, they are a perfect compliment to a sink full of suds.

I've had a couple of friends request them...so, let the knitting continue! :)

First though, I must get reading through all of your blogs!! My blog reader is full to the brim of new wonderful posts....How shall I ever get through them?! I also have some fun new recipes to share this week.

{la la la, life and all of that}

What a summer! Since the end of May I have been all around. I spent a long while with my family and dear, dear friends in Boise and also took a little tour to Portland, Seattle and Northern Idaho...seeing friends and family along the way. Including lots of green!!! (Which is more than I can say about the current desert I'm living in.)

{driving into my little hometown in North ID. it had been 3 years since I saw this view!}

It was incredible.....and.....the perfect distraction for me, as Mister was away training. But, after two months apart (yes, two months) we headed for an away vacay to Florida.

It was amazing!! We stayed in a friend's beach house. So yes, you guessed it: beach time every day, great food and of course golf for Mister. A great little second honeymoon.

I guess it wouldn't be a post from me, if I didn't include some food. Well, near the beach a little place claimed to have the best hotdogs. Mister pretty much craved them the moment we saw the stand. Me. Well, if you truly know me, you know I NEVER crave hotdogs and really didn't want to test the company on their proclamation (nor would I have any authority on the subject) . But, being that I wanted to make him happy...we made our way over. AND....luckily, they had VEGGIE DOGS! (Yay!)

Anyway - my bad for not bringing my computer and therefore, not keeping in touch.

It is quite nice being back home though (even if I'm still getting used to Texas). I mean in actuality, I finished all of our moving boxes, arranged all of our furniture, hung the last of the pictures and then jetted to Idaho 2 days later. It's sort of fun being able to enjoy our new place. But, I'm not getting too comfortable, because in a week, it's more family fun in Arizona. Let's just say that coming from the Northwest, this has been a HOT, HOT, HOT summer: daily living in Texas (eek!), vacation in Florida (ugh!) and then on to Arizona (yikes!). I'm seemingly getting used to the heat (not!), but hey...I've never been so tan. ;)

{vacation projects}

I'm still on the longest vacation ever! When all is said and done, I'll have spent 5 weeks home with my parents and sisters. It's been fun thus far...and the great thing about coming home for a visit is that I still have SO many friends in the area. I've been here 2 weeks now and still haven't see everyone. Every day seems scheduled, but with that said, I've still managed to do one of my favorite things.....knit!

In typical "me" fashion, I pretty much started 3 new knitting projects at the same time. Never mind the fact that I brought one with me (not pictured) that I still need to finish. Oh! And a very good friend of mine, who's local, called me up and invited me to come dye yarn with her. So, more knitting ahead!

Of course, I've also spent some time in the kitchen. Though I must admit, my mom is a rock star in that area, so I'm definitely letting her work her magic. One of the yummies, we had last week was this sweet blueberry treat (I'll provide the recipe in an upcoming post!).

{à table: stuffed mushrooms}

I said that I would post on this little side dish HERE, and so...before the weeks pass too long, I thought I should make good with my promise. Often times, I put so much effort into a main dish, that the side dishes get neglected. Well, not this night!! I was craving mushrooms (as usual) and when I came across the below recipe, there was no question what we'd be having for dinner. And get this...these satisfying, figure friendly, stuffed mushrooms don't even use butter!!

Serves 4 - Calories 63

What you need...

1 box (10 oz) white mushrooms, cleaned

4 scallions, trimmed and thinly sliced

1 tbsp olive oil

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

2 tbsp panko bread crumbs (I used garlic + herb flavored)

1 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.

2. Pop the stems off the mushrooms and chop; arrange the mushroom caps in a single layer on the prepared pan. Reserve 2 tbsp of the scallions for garnish. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the scallions and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the chopped mushroom stems, salt, and pepper, and cook, stirring, until tender, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool slightly.

3. Divide the mushroom stem mixture amoung the mushroom caps. Combine the panko and Parmesan and press the crumbs gentl into the mushroom stem mixture. Bake until the mushrooms are tender and the topping is golden brown, about 30 minutes. Garnish with the reserved scallions and serve.

{sweet treat tuesday - on wednesday: frozen yogurt, literally}

Last week the temperature was pushing the very high 90's chez moi. I was craving something sweet, but had a couple of stipulations: 1) no oven, 2) light and fresh dessert, 3) figure friendly, 4) easy, easy easy. Then, all of the sudden I had remembered a snack that I used to make: frozen yogurt. How had I forgotten about this simple, yet satisfying dessert?! I'm sure you've tried this or heard of this...but, in case you've forgotten about it (like me)....then here's a reminder to try this the next time you want to satisfy a sweet tooth.

What you need...

*Yoplait Whipped Yogurt - your preferred flavor

* Fresh berries

* A little dish

What you do...
*Freeze Whipped Yoplait - preferrably over night
*Take out of freezer and let set for a second (it will help when scooping out)
*Top with fresh berries
*Enjoy!

Now....of course you can eat it out of the 'carton', but do yourself a little favor and make it special by scooping your dessert into a dish. Growing up, my grandpa would always say: "never eat breakfast at a fast food place and never put cartons on the table." Tables are so much prettier and a meal is much more enjoyable when you take an extra moment to 'dress it up'.

Hi! Sorry for the week-long delay. What a fun, but crazy time. I decided to completely change our house. I went through every room and rearranged furniture, added things, purged things, finally unpacked most all of our boxes and even cleared out our garage! {silent applause...}

Then, this weekend, I got on a plane and headed home to surprise one of my sisters (Suzette)....for her HS Graduation!! She was definitely surprised...

...Her shocked but happy face was more than a million words. My youngest sister, Liberty, was definitely instrumental in helping arrange all the little details. Last night was her graduation and she was glowing (and looking much older than just having completed high school). I'm so glad to have been a part of that moment.

{sweet treat tuesday: caraway cookies}

Not long ago, I posted a delicious cookie recipe for Rosemary and Lemon tea cookies. They were a huge hit, and so when I came across this recipe, using caraway seeds, I had to try it out. Now...admittedly, this was my first time using caraway seeds and though the experience was fun, I will probably not use them again, in this recipe. I know, right?! What am I saying?? I'm showing you a recipe that I won't use again? Crazy. BUT...in truth - I really do think this is a great, fun and unique cookie (just taste specific). SO...if you're not partial to caraway...try POPPY SEEDS! They would be a GREAT variation!

Caraway Cookies

2 Cups all-purpose flour
Pinch of Salt
1/2 Cup butter, cut into small pieces
1 1/4 Cups sugar
1 egg, beaten*
2 Tbsp caraway seeds** (variation Poppy Seeds)
Raw sugar, for sprinkling (optional)***

1) Lightly grease cookie sheet(s) with butter.
2) Sift the flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.

3) Reserve 1 Tablespoon of the beaten egg for brushing and add the rest into the mixture*, together with the caraway seeds. Bring together to form a soft dough.
4) On a lightly floured surface, roll out the cookie dough thinly and then cut out rounds (about 36).
5) Transfer the cookies to the cookie sheets, brush with the reserved beaten egg and sprinkle with raw sugar.
6) Bake in a preheated oven at 325 degrees for 10-15 minutes, until cookies are crisp and lightly golden in color.
7) Let cookies cool on a wire rack.

*I put the entire egg into my mixture (as the dough was too dry). I then prepared another egg for brushing.
**Caraway Seeds have a very nutty and anise flavor. They are VERY taste specific. For a variation, try substituting Poppy Seeds. In fact, next time, I will, as I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor.
***If you use the Caraway Seeds - definitely sprinkle on the raw sugar. For my personal taste, it helps with the unusual flavor.

The other day I was flipping channels and happened upon the show, Doctors. Have you seen it? I never have. I would have kept flipping, but just as I tuned in, they were showing a recipe to cure PMS. Of course, I had to watch. Now, I think if it were a true cure, then there would be much more hype and it, but I can see the validity in the drink actually reducing symptoms.

Study after study was conducted regarding PMS. A result of the surveys, case studies and research was a PMS Smoothie. Of course you'll have used these ingredients before, if you've ever attempted a smoothie, but apparently the blend of these items together is the key. This nutritious drink if full of magnesium, calcium and vitamin C.

Ingredients:
• 1 cup low-fat yogurt
• 8 oz. orange juice
• 1 cup fresh strawberries
• 1 banana
• 1 tablespoon molasses (or to taste)

Add ingredients to blender and blend approximately 45 seconds. Add ice if necessary.

What I love about this smoothie, is it uses all natural ingredients (not powders, fillers, etc.) ...just the way I like it.

Come on...admit it. You've been there before: moody, anxious, tense, bloated... So, when it's that time of month - try this (and then let me know what you thought)!!

It's Food Friday again!! How has this week passed so quickly?!

One of Mister's love languages is service (though I believe that must be a common one between most men, and of course, moms). Either way, I knew that he'd be in the field and training so long, that I wanted to make a special dinner. One of his favorites is spaghetti, but as I'm trying to cut my calorie intake, I wanted to find a solution that would satisfy both of us. Thankfully I happened upon a fantastic recipe. The solution....

Spaghetti Squash Spaghetti

Taking out the pasta cuts our normal meal from about 550 calories (if not more) to just 300 calories (if not less)...depending on your portion control!

What you need:
1 Large spaghetti squash
2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 Garlic Clove, peeled and finely chopped
2 Cups prepared marinara sauce
2 Tbsp grated Parmesan Cheese

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees

2. Cut the squash in half lengthwise and scoop and discard all seeds. Rub the squash inside and out with 1 Tbsp of oil and season the inside with salt and pepper. Place the squash, cut side down, on a baking sheet and cover with aluminum foi. Place in the oven and cook for 45 minutes, or until the rind is slightly soft and gives with a little pressure.

3. With a fork, scrape the flesh out into an oven proof bowl, creating the thin strands of "spaghetti". Cover and keep warm in a very low oven. this can be done ahead and rewarmed in a low oven or microwave.

4. **Meanwhile, heat a large sauté pan over medium heat and add the remaining tablespoon of oil and the garlic. Stir until the garlic is lightly golden, about 30 seconds, then add the marinara sauce and simmer until warm.

5. Place the squash strands in 4 pasta bowls, top with the sauce and sprinkle with the cheese. Serve immediately.

**I made a "chunkier" version of my homemade spaghetti sauce...as to fully satisfy Mister, but either way - the squash is delicious with sauce. I didn't miss the pasta one bit!!!

What a week. To let you in on a little secret {or not so much of a secret}...Mister leaves tomorrow for training. What does this mean? This means that we will be away from each other for nearly 2 months. Ugh. I know families face this all the time, in our line of life, but it doesn't make it easier. Mister is my best friend. I'm amazed daily at how blessed I am to be married to such a man. So....I'm not looking forward to these next couple of months, BUT...to help....I'm heading back to my parents and friends in Boise, ID (for the entire month of June)!! I'll fill you in more about that later. For now, since my mind is a bit occupied, and I've decided to repost this gem of a recipe {from a previous blog I managed}.

Belgian Leek Tart with Aged Goat Cheese {Flamiche Aux Poireaux}

what you need...

crust --
4 tablespoons (or more) ice water
3/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup (1 stick) plus 1 tablespoon chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes

filling --
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup crumbled aged goat cheese (such as Bûcheron), rind trimmed
1 1/2 cups Leek Confit

what you do --

**crust --

1) Combine 4 tablespoons ice water and cider vinegar in small bowl.
2) Blend flour and salt in processor. Add butter and cut in using on/off turns until mixture resembles coarse meal.
3) With machine running, slowly add water-vinegar mixture, processing until moist clumps form. If dough seems dry, add ice water by teaspoonfuls.
4) Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
5) Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 375°F.
6) Roll dough out on lightly floured work surface to 12-inch round.
7) Transfer to 9-inch-diameter tart pan with removable bottom. Press dough onto bottom and up sides. Fold in overhang and press to extend dough 1/2 inch above sides of pan.
8) Line pan with foil and dried beans or pie weights.
9) Bake until dough looks dry and set, about 30 minutes.
10 Remove foil and beans and continue to bake until crust is pale golden, 20 to 25 minutes longer.
11) Remove from oven and cool while preparing filling.

filling --
1) Whisk milk, cream, egg, egg yolk, and salt in medium bowl to blend.
2) Sprinkle 1/4 cup cheese over bottom of warm crust.
3) Spread leek confit over and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
4) Pour milk mixture over.

bake until filling has puffed, is golden in spots, and center looks set, ( 35-40 minutes). Transfer to rack; cool slightly. Remove pan sides. Serve warm or at room temperature.

**Dough can be made 3 days ahead. Keep refrigerated. Allow dough to soften slightly at room temperature before rolling out.}

I've posted on meringues before {see HERE}, and it seemed to cause a little stir. People either love them or hate them. Me?! I love them. They are addictive. No guilt though, peeps...the recipe I'm about to show you can be guilt free. These cookies are a mere 11 calories!!

Ingredients ~

*3 egg whites
*Pinch of salt
*1/2 cup of light brown sugar
*1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

What to do ~

1) Preheat the oven to 225 degrees

2) Line 2 baking trays with parchment paper or silicone sheet

3) In a large standing mixer fitted with a whisk, or a hand-held mixer, beat the egg whites and salt on high speed until soft peaks form. Add the sugar slowly while beating, a few spoonfuls at a time, until the meringue is stiff and shinny (about 3-5 minutes). Add the vanilla and beat to combine.

4) Using a large tablespoon, drop the meringue onto the prepared baking sheet in the shape of kisses - about 2 inches apart. Or cut the corner off a large plastic bag, filled with meringue, and squeeze out the kisses. Bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

5) Turn the oven off and keep the door ajar. Let cool for 1 hour in the oven. Store in a tin or wrap loosely in aluminum foil; do not store in plastic wrap or glass or the cookies will become soggy.

6) Try not to eat all of the meringues in one setting. :)

{You know the fashion rule: "before leaving the house, take a look in the mirror and remove one thing..." Well, I think that principle could easily apply to the blog world at times. And, I really think that it should have applied to the post below. Maybe one too many pictures?! But, you have to understand...I am overly proud of my little brother. Overly. So...I couldn't help but show some of these proud memories! Hopefully, it won't be too hard to endure.... :) }

My best friend growing up??? Undoubtedly, my brother!

I always hear stories of siblings fighting, but not us. We were inseparable, best friends who always stuck up for each other. I remember always wanting him to succeed. Let me put it this way...in school, our teachers ended up putting us on the same sporting team (or any team for that matter) because if not, we would deliberately sabotage our own team...so that the other would win. I know - crazy, but true. True as can be.

Here are some fun memories of my bubba/boomer/brother...

For this week's Foodie Friday, I have a super simple dinner for you! I actually didn't plan on posting this, but the other night when I served up dinner...Mister was so happy with it, that he said I had share.

You know those days...when you don't want to fuss over the stove; think about a satisfying dish for everyone; don't have time to go to the store? Well, that's what I was feeling. I raided my pantry, freezer and fridge and had a vague remembrance of a dish that I had tasted years prior. I knew what I was going to serve! Chicken à la tomato sauce ~

Like I said, I raided my rations, so you can do the same. There are a ton of different variations to this, and actually there's probably a proper recipe out there. But, I just figured out something with what I had on hand...

*Chicken Breast(s) - I used three. Leftovers are a blessing (even if you do like to cook!!!)

*1 large can crushed tomatoes

*1 small can tomato sauce - or crushed tomatoes (whatever you have/want)

*Magi Sauce (I always have this on hand, but you could equally use Worcestershire sauce.)

* 1-2 Tbsp Sour Cream (Or creme fraiche or even plain yogurt!)

*Fresh basil

*Parmesan cheese

*1-2 Tbsp Olive Oil

*Garlic Powder (of course, you can use fresh garlic...I just didn't have any)

*Salt + Pepper

1) Season both sides of chicken (Salt, Pepper, Garlic powder)

2) In a deep pot, medium heat, add the olive oil and sear both sides of the chicken (until a good "crust"/browning has occurred).

3) Cover seared chicken with tomato sauce, splash in sauce magi (or whatever you're using).

4) Add lid on pot and reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer for 45 min - 1hr (depending on thickness of Chicken). Stir every so often.

5) Stir in a bit of fresh basil. (I added some about 10 minutes before serving. You could do it earlier or at very end.)

6) When chicken is cooked through, turn off heat and stir in sour cream

7) Serve over rice (which I had). I originally would have suggested pasta, but honestly the rice was so yummy with the sauce...so, I'll probably do this again.

8) Top with fresh basil and Parmesan Cheese.

As I said...a hundred variations. I might try a few new things next time, but then again, Mister was so happy with it - so, maybe I won't!

In my preference, I'd be French every day {as I'm sure you're sick of hearing}, but in honor of this day...and my "almost-Mexico" new city: Happy Cinco de Mayo!

In truth, since moving here, I have been inspired to try new versions and new recipes of yummy Mexican food. So...what's more appropriate than celebrate today with a fantastic recipe?! I found this via Epicurious and wow - this is so good, so fast and could be changed up a million different ways (well...you know what I mean). You can make this healthier, naughtier...whatever you fancy.

Ingredients:

1 medium white onion
1 pound tomatoes, quartered
2 large garlic cloves
1 or 2 fresh serrano chiles, stemmed
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoon vegetable oil, divided
3 cups shredded iceberg lettuce (I never buy iceberg, so substituted bib)
6 large radishes, halved and sliced
1/2 cup chopped cilantro, divided
1 rotisserie chicken, meat coarsely shredded (4 cups)
6 (6-inch) corn tortillas
1 (1-pound) can refried beans, heated
1 avocado, halved, pitted, and peeled
1/2 cup Mexican crema or sour cream
1/4 cup crumbled queso añjo (aged white cheese, also called cotija) or ricotta salata

{sweet treat tuesday: rosemary cookies}

As with most things, I love the idea of baking. I love it much more than cooking, but I married a man that prefers savory over sweet. (WHAT?!) Mister kindly eats all my creations, but no need to compromise because I found a perfect treat that works for the both of us! Not too sweet and not too savory: Rosemary cookies.

Don't be afraid of rosemary while baking!! It's a fun change and would be absolutely belle chic to serve with an afternoon of ladies....

Here's what you do:

2 Tbsp butter, softened
4 Tbsp sugar
grated rind of 1 lemon
4 Tbsb lemon juice
1 egg, separated
2 tsp rosemary, finely chopped
1 3/4 C all-pupose flour, sifted

superfine sugar, for sprinkling - optional (I used raw sugar)

1) Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets.
2) In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
3) Add the lemon rind and juice, then the egg yolk, and beat until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Stir the chopped fresh rosemary.
4) Add the sifted flour mixing well until a soft dough is formed. Wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

{I LOVE how pretty the dough looks with the rosemary and lemon zest peaking through!!!}

5) On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough thinly and stamp out about 25 cookies with a 2 1/2 inch cookie cutter. Arrange the dough on the prepared cookie sheets.

{I used a pretty cookie cutter to create the scallopped edges...}

6) In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg white over the surface of each cookie, then sprinkle with a little sugar, if desired.
7) bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.
8) Transfer the cookies to a wire rack and cool completely before serving.

Not only are they perfect....because of the chic ingrediants and taste; they are perfect because they are totally european in style! And trust me, any time I can pretend to be from Europe, I do. {For proof see HERE and HERE.}

A typical household staple in Europe (at least in the past) were small butter cookies or other such 'harder' cookies (often found in a tin). When I lived in France, it was common to take one's afternoon tea with a little cookie - one that wasn't too sweet, but perfectly satisfied and easily complimented a hot drink.

Impress your friends, family and even yourself with these super fast, easy and yummy treats, that are a perfect compliment to afternoon tea!

As I stopped blogging for so long, not sure if you remember my post about these cloth un-paper towels....but, I've wanted them for so long! I finally decided that it was time. I hope I'm as happy with them as I've been dreaming of. Mister and I have been trying to be more aware of our waste, and our over use of paper towels has been getting on my nerves. Hopefully these BirdE towels will be the answer to our quest. On verra*...

I have never (and will never) claim to be a designer or even claim to know what I'm doing. I do, however, recognize what I like. Since - forever - my favorite look in home and clothes has been black and white (ok, ok...and a ton of grey!). I love the classy, chic appearance and love how other colors can pop with the combination. I had to take note (again) while looking through the ever inspiring Apartment Therapy yesterday. I don't think I'll ever get tired of this fantastic duo...

I know that there's a lot I can do now (as a renter) to decorate to my design preference....but, oh! I'll be so over-joyed to own my own home and really go crazy...(like paint a door, just like that first photo)!

Actually, in truth, I don't have a specific laundry day, but, as I was not in the mood to do any house chores this week, I am facing them now. I've always loved the idea of a clothes line, but our current dusty back yard would just make more work for me (as this wind hasn't died down since we moved here). That's okay though (don't feel too bad for me), I'm fairly certain that our humble clothes wouldn't look quite as nice as this romantic layout above. So, I'll happily just dream about a random clothes line, graced with lacey frocks and strung up in a lush forest...

It wouldn't be Friday without a little recipe or food inspiration from me! As long I can remember, I've had Angel Food Cake for my birthday. It's by far my favorite! So, what's more appropriate than a simple and sweet dessert for this week?

{The key to this below photo is to not look too hard. My camera phone doesn't do the taste justice.}

To dress up the cake, I made a lemon glaze and topped it with some strawberries we had in the fridge. Mister was a bit worried that it wouldn't "satisfy"; however, after taking the first bite, he was convinced and after taking the last bite, he was happy that he didn't feel like he indulged too much. Because let's be honest...cake isn't that friendly to a diet.

This dessert was light, refreshing and delish! A perfect idea for Mother's Day. And, if you don't have time to bake a cake from scratch - just follow in Mister's footsteps. Buy the cake and make a glaze.

Glaze -
1 C confectioner's sugar
4 Tbl fresh lemon juice
*mix together with a whisk until smooth

Drizzle glaze over cake and top with your favorite fruit (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries...)

{You can make any variation to the glaze by substituting organge juice, lime juice...and then adding fruit that would compliment!}

It's my birthday! And though I don't generally shout that out, I can't help but take note of my last birthday in my 20's.

I've celebrated my birthdays in many places that I've lived, including Idaho, France, Oklahoma, Alaska, Washington and now Texas. (Oh, and even the hospital - as you can see below!) I had my second birthday in the hospital after compound fracturing my femur. Yikes! The experience was much more traumatic for my parents, as I have no memory of the ordeal. But, grew up with a scar that proves what happened. Either way - my parents tried to make the day as special as possible.

Two years later, on my fourth birthday, I burst into tears! (And, this I COMPLETELY remember). I was such a shy one, that when all the attention turned to me, I got completely overwhelmed. My parents were so sweet to me and tried to console me. (You can see my tears in the below photo.) Alas, I turned out okay... :)

And now, here I am...the last year of my 20's. So - here's to celebrating in a new "home"!

A few years ago, while planning my wedding, I came across a beautiful invitation stating a morning wedding time. Since then, I've been in love with the idea of a morning wedding. Morning sunlight, bird's chirping, breakfast served....all together dreamy. I've brought this idea up to Mister (even recently) and he constantly can only think of how early everyone would have to get up in order to get ready. He has a point, but then again....after scouring the blogosphere this past week, my eyes happened upon a glorious scene...And, since I am married and won't be having another wedding, perhaps I should take a cue from these dreamy pics and plan a mid-morning pancake party.

One advantage to making your own products is the waste you reduce! Instead of running to the store (using gas and time), purchasing products/packaging that is going to end up in the trash, you can make a simple recipe, store the product in glass and thus save on waste. More than that though, you can control the sugar and junk that is going in each product. Let's be honest....sometimes we're not very kind to ourselves! Ultimately, by making even ONE product (be it food or a cleaning solution) we're being kind to us, our families and our environment.

One problem: often it is so convenient living "unkindly". Taking the first step to living green can often feel daunting. But, two years ago, I discovered a gem while living in Alaska. I purchased a book that I will get a lifetime of use out of: Reader's Digest HOMEMADE.

It's full of recipes for life! Trust me. It gives quick, simple and doable recipes. The book covers nearly 400 commonly purchased foods, health/beauty products, cleaning solutions (including weed reducers - that are environmentally friendly)!

Here are some tips!

Eucalyptus oil (a power natural antiseptic) is an amazing stain remover! Moisten a rag and add a bit of oil. Rub on stain (works particularly well on grease and perspiration). Best if you rub from outer edge of stain to middle. Et voila !

Open your drains (the non-toxic way)! Have you ever used a commercial drain-cleaner? I have. They stink, make my eyes burn and are highly toxic and corrosive. Instead, pour a pot of boiling water or toss some baking soda followed by a 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drain.

Rug cleaner Instead of using commercial "dry shampoos" for rugs, use baking soda. It will gently remove dirt and deodorize.

All purpose earth friendly liquid cleaner (P.S. the cost is under a $1 per bottle!)

What you need:

*32 oz. (around 950ml) spray bottle - try to use a bottle made from recycled materials, or is recyclable. My source recommends #2 plastic (For more info on Plastic, check out THIS post by PureModLife.

*water

*White distilled vinegar. It should be vinegar made from grain or plant material. Believe it or not, some vinegar is synthesized from petroleum - yes, crude oil!

*Genuine lemongrass essential oil. Aside from helping to mask the vinegar odor (which dissipates naturally), Lemongrass has anti-bacterial properties. For increased disinfecting power, you can use Tea Tree oil which also has anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.

* Earth friendly dishwashing liquid. This can be found in just about any supermarket. The dishwashing liquid is necessary to clean mirrors and glass streak-free where commercial glass cleaners have been used previous. Many commercial window/glass cleaners have chemicals of a waxy nature in them; so when you switch to vinegar/water, there will be streaking unless you have the dish detergent in your cleaner. Once that build-up is gone, dishwashing liquid isn't necessary.

Method
1. Fill bottle half with water
2. Top it up with white distilled vinegar, but leave a little room for the additional ingredients and for shaking
3. Add 10-14+ drops lemongrass essential oil.
4. Add 2-3 drops of the earth friendly dishwashing liquid.
5. Cap and shake. There should be a thin layer of foamy bubbles at the top - but not too many.
6. Label container clearly. Shake before using and store out of direct sunlight.

Uses:
Windows, mirrors, floors, some carpet/clothing/upholstery stains, chrome, as a rinse after using baking soda, cleaning stainless steel and porcelain, to clean toilet area. Also cleans car windows/mirrors, door handles, and much more.

*Make sure not to use vinegar on Marble. :)

Let's be honest. The idea of winning a home {no matter one's opinion on decor} would be amazing. So in honor of earth week I couldn't help but post the green home 2010. I'm sure most all of you have seen it. Admittedly, the first year they had a home, I entered daily, this year, I have yet to even try. That being said, I have admired the idea of having a home in New England {it would be a dream of mine to move there one day...at least for a short while}. I think it would be quite easy to live green in the below home, but I may have to purge most of the red found around the house {a bit too much for me...and if you're wondering, I didn't post the 'red' pics}!

But, living a green life doesn't have to commence with winning a glorious green home. It can start anywhere, anytime and with anyone. This year, my biggest green act was to plant a garden. It's already started to save us some money, but more importantly, will help cut down on trips to the store, as we like to eat fresh as much as possible. Secondly, Mister and I switched from tupperware to glass storage. {And we LOVE it!! So much easier for re-heating food and plus, it cleans up much better.}

My mom is one of my best friends. She has always been one of my biggest supporters {what are mom's for?!} and I can easily bounce ideas and life off of her. She instilled a love for France/French in me at a very young age and though she didn't know it, taught us to live and eat organically. She's an inventive cook and I'm constantly inspired by her ability to just 'whip something up'. She's often looks at restaurant meals and thinks, "I can just make that myself". Now, I tend to do the same thing.

One love my mom passed on to me is a love for Cookbooks! I love collecting all sorts{though need to maybe use them more}!

I have several that I'm currently reading through right now. This week, I'm loving Julia's Kitchen Wisdom by our dear Julia Child.

This small quick reference book that is full of gems! It's peppered with recipes, but more than that, fantastic techniques.
{Ohhhh! I have so much to learn!!}

When you look through it, you'll find tips on soups, dressings, braising, roasting, breads, souffles and the list goes on.

Check it out and you're sure to step up your skills, no matter what level you're at!

So, not to sound like a crazy, but Mister and I have a thing for Meerkats. We got hooked on the show: Meerkat Manor. Then after relocating, we heard that they would be touring at our local zoo. I didn't do much cooking this past week. Mister was gone and really, what I was to do with all the food? But when he walked in the door late Friday, he was glad that I was ready to start creating! Saturday I had fun trying a bunch of new recipes and variations on some faves. It was dinner à la mexican. I knew that Mister would be happy as it's his favorite food to eat.

We love tacos. Sometimes I make them "American-style" with lettuce and all the trimmings, but lately have been inspired by what we find here in "almost-Mexico". We didn't have any carne asada (Mister's favorite), but the ground beef was perfectly dressed with grilled onions, tomatoes, fresh avocado and of course cilantro. Add some fresh radishes on the side, and the meal is satisfying! As I was in the mood to create, I made up some homemade stuffed jalapenos (a recipe that I learned a few weeks ago when visiting friends for Easter) and a vegan bean dip. YUM!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We are taking ours quite easy as poor Mister walked over 40 miles in less than a three day period just before coming home. He's stuffing his belly and resting up for the week ahead. Even though we're pretty much house-bound, it's been an awesome couple of days.

I've mentioned this BEFORE, I have a lot of favorite kitchen items. Lately, I've been very happy for my Pampered Chef Garlic Press! {I think it's so funny how I find such joy in something, such as a salad spinner or garlic press....} I love fresh garlic, but am not a fan of mincing and stinking up my fingers. This press does it all: put it in whole and it will peel, crush and mince. Love it {and it's under $20}!!

My dear Mister is out in the field training....again. So, what have I been up to? Shopping online or 'screen' shopping, rather. {Would 'screen' shopping be the equivalent to 'window' shopping? Well, I guess for my purposes, it is.}

Since moving into our new place, I have been looking for some key pieces {and by key pieces, I'm specifically talking about a small desk}. Mister and I have searched and searched, but I haven't been satisfied....that is...until now! I just found the perfect writing desk (though a too much $$ - ugh!). Either way, I fell in love with this Etsy perfection.

As I mentioned HERE, I have started a series, à table.

For this week....I wanted to share this amazing granola recipe! The source is from Alicia's Silverstone's book, The Kind Diet. {Which is also linked on the right, as one of my current reads.} Don't get me started on her book. It's fantastic! I loooove the recipes, and even more than that, I'm further convinced about certain foods. If you read it, be warned that it's pro-vegan, but you'll love the recipes throughout! And...there are plenty vegetarian options that would compliment any meal.

Though I'm a self-proclaimed slacking pescetarian, and in all honesty could be easily convinced to full vegetarian status, this blog is not meant to push specific eating habits on you, but rather inspire you to make yummy food, right in your own kitchen! And with that, I segue into this yumminess....{dressed with Almond Milk} :)

Mom's Granola - Makes 2 Quarts

6C quick-cooking oats
1/2 C maple sugar
3/4 wheat germ
1/2C shredded coconut
1/2C sesame or sunflower seeds
1C chopped nuts or raisins (*I did 1/2 and 1/2)
1/2 C safflower oil
1/3 C maple syrup (sweetest version) or brown rice syrup (slighly milder)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

*Spread the oats on a rimmed baking pan, and bake for 10 minutes. Transfer the oats to a large mixing bowl, and add the sugar, wheat germ, coconut, seeds, and nuts or raisins. Stir to mix well, then add the oil, syrup, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is moistened.

*Spread half of the mixutre on each of the 2 rimmed baking sheets (or bake in 2 batches), and bake for 10 minutes. Stir after 5 minutes to brown evenly.

*Let the baked granola cool, then transfer it to a bowl and sitr until crumbly. Store in an airtight container.

{Seriously - this is a fantastic, yummy granola that even the husband and kids will love. And, it makes a bunch!! So, no need to pay $4 - $5 for a small box of store bought granola that's full of refined sugar and other no-need ingredients!}

I have lots of fun kitchen gadgets that I love. In fact, every week I pretty much declare one of them my favorite. This week it's my salad spinner. *Sigh*

It's fantastic. I know most people have a salad spinner, but I just got it. Literally...this picture, is the first time that I used it. AND...I got it for $16. For some reason, I thought it would be much more, but nope. (And, that's why I bought it...even though I wasn't out shopping for one. hehe) I'm not sure how I lived without one for so long, since we pretty much have salad every other (if not every) dinner.

Great life saver!!

There's something happy about dirty gardening gloves. They provoke a sense of accomplishment and pride...

I purchased one of the cutest pairs I've ever owned from Target - London Liberty Collection and they definitely inspired me this weekend. {On that note - I claim to be a marketer's dream!! If something is cute or appealing in any way, I pretty much want to buy it....even if it has no relation to my current interests or needs. Yes, that's right...a marketer's dream. Market it right, and I'll find a reason to "want" it.} Either way, when I saw these gloves, I knew I needed them in order to properly tend to my garden.

Here is some of what I did this weekend...

I've planted herbs in the past and tomatoes, but never lettuce, garlic, shallots, onions, strawberries and a few other treasures. And, next weekend I plan to add a few more things. So -- here's hoping that I can keep things growing in this sunny, sunny, sunny weather!

I'm not generally one to love the outdoors. Don't get me wrong - I love looking at the outdoors, I just don't love 'experiencing' them. That being said, this afternoon I had a specific desire....imagine: Mister and I hand-in-hand, walking barefoot with soft green grass under our feet. Soon we'd happen upon a perfect spot (sunny with the perfect tree ballooning over - offering shade). We'd fold out the plaid blanket, set up a picnic and face the rippling water. Lovely...

Well, that's impossible here. Impossible! I was reminded of this immediately as I looked outside. Our front yard is covered in rock and our back yard....DUST. Does our new city even have a park?! I know that there's no lake that we could day-dream by, but is there even a park? (Well, of course there's a park, Naphtali. What do you think?) The question is.............is there a GREEN park? Soft green grass? NO. The answer is no. Then, in a moment of brilliance, I suggested that Mister and I go to the golf course and imagine the day away - but he was quick to let me know....that...."the course in not green". (Is that even legal? Isn't that a rule or something? Not a green golf course...?)

Hmm...what to do? I know I should care about the fact that there is a lack of water in this city. And...with a lack of water, comes a myriad of usage rules, but....as I said...I had a dream for this afternoon. *Sigh*

I wonder if the house on the corner, with the 6 feet of glorious (and obvious code- violating) green grass would freak out if I set up a picnic there?

Well, here goes nothing....

Fresh Tomato Tarts

9oz fresh puff pastry
1 egg, beaten
2 tbsp pesto
6 plum tomatoes, sliced
Kosher Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper
Fresh thyme leaves to garish (optional, but so good!!)

*On a lightly floured kitchen counter, roll out pastry dough to a rectangle about 12x10 inches.
*Cut rectangle in half and divide each half into 3 pieces to make 6 even pieces. Chill for 20 minutes (ish).
*Lightly score the edges of the dough and brush with the beaten egg.
*Spread the pesto over center, leaving a border on each side.
*Arrange tomato slices on top of pesto.

*Season well with Salt and Pepper and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves.
*Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes (until well risen and golden brown)

**This can also be made in one large rectangle instead of individual tarts.

In regards to the Pesto...you can choose to make it from scratch. It's supper easy by just blending (basil, pine nuts, Parmesan, olive oil...) BUT - as I don't always keep pine nuts on hand and generally like to "kick-up" the flavor with paste anyway, I use the below product. It's fantastic! Lasts for a long time. You can easily mix some good Olive Oil with it and dress pasta or simply spread out on a tart (like above).

Use this recipe as an excuse to have some friends over. They'll be impressed with the yumminess and you'll be happy with the easy preparation!! Oh -- and make sure to tell me if you try it!

à table = a French term used to signify dinner time. It literally means "at [the] table".

I have many memories growing up when dinner would be ready and I'd hear my mom say (in her convincing French accent) "à table". Here I am years later, and though I don't have little children piling around the dinner table, my Mister has become quite familiar with the phrase. Since this term is so prominent in my life and since I love to express art through food, and since admittedly I get asked "what I'm making" several times a week, I've decided to start documenting certain dinners/recipes on my blog. I'm not a professional by ANY means, but I have fun exploring my way around the kitchen. If you're interested in me trying out anything in particular - let me know!

As for last night....?

Salmon, roasted potatoes and broccoli

Marinade:
1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tsp finely chopped fresh ginger
1/2 tsp Asian sesame oil
1/4 cup dry sherry
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp chopped green onion
2 medium cloves minced garlic

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer slowly for 5 minutes. Strain liquid and chill. Place Salmon (or another fish of choice - I've used halibut and talapia) in a non-reactive pan and cover with marinade. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes. Remove fish and cook! I barbecued the salmon in the above photo, but generally bake it. Yum!

Potatoes:

Quarter potatoes and dress with:
Olive Oil
Garlic
Chopped parsley
Kosher Sea Salt
Crushed black pepper
Bake on a cookie sheet for 30 minutes at 400 degrees.

a serious case of the hiccups...

Sometimes I get the hiccups. At first they seem mildly interesting. The body is slightly out of control, with an intruding noise exiting ever so delicately...or not so delicately, rather. After a while though, the hiccups are annoying. They take away concentration and impede on an otherwise wonderful moment. Why am I bringing up the hiccups, you ask? Well, in the "blog" world, I just had a serious case of them. But, as generally the case, I'm over it and thus, back to this mysterious world of writing one's thoughts, posting random pictures and praising creativity. Yes, I am back to blogging.

These past few months have been filled with an insane amount of change. At the end of 2009 I was working overtime on a weekly basis, doing a terrible job keeping up with friends, my home and yes...this blog, and trying to enjoy the holidays with the knowledge that soon my world may be changing. After just a year and a half in one of my most favorite cities, Seattle, my husband got word that we'd be moving. Just six weeks after we heard the news, boxes were packed, friends were hugged and we were on our way to Texas. Texas?! Though Texas is a wonderful all-American State...it's not the Northwest. Admittedly tears were shed. But, hand-in-hand, with brave faces, Mister and I arrived - just as we were ordered.

We've been in the city for 6 weeks and in our home for just about 4 weeks. Our house is slowly becoming a home, and this very dusty city is slowly growing on us. As I've been working from home, my time is definitely more manageable. So...I'm back to blogging!!

Anyway - enough writing! Though we're in Texas, it more feels like Mexico. Not a single "y'all" has been heard, nor the traditional accent that one might think. In fact, if I'm going to leave with any accent, it may be Spanish! (What will that do to my French?!) Either way, I told Mister that I could handle living in a dusty, brown city...as long as I could see some sort of mountain. Here's our view! And though they're not full of wonderful pine trees, the rock's reddish hue is every so slightly growing on us...

Doesn't it seem as if life get's insanely busy around this time of year? People are back in school; back in a routine; back to life. Before schedules begin to pile up, Mister and I have decided to head to the Ocean this weekend.

I was reminded yesterday that life is short, precious and love comes in many forms. Remember to let love in...Cause, yes - it is a choice.

Thank you Laura of Laura's Paris Cooking Notebook for giving me the Kreative Blogger Award!! I am so honored to be thought of. I started this blog a while back, took a long pause and just this Spring got serious about consistancy. It has been a constant joy to learn about others, meet people and ultimately new friends with common interests and even learn more about myself. I hope to continue to inspire and even change things up a bit in the months to come!! I find constant inspiration in the kitchen, thanks to Laura's blog. Check it out for great recipes!

To fully accept the above, I've been asked to share 7 things about myself that you may not know. So here it goes!

1} I think I'm French. No, I didn't say that I want to be French...I really think that I am. Deep down.
2} I am a city girl, but would love to own a goat: named Edelweiss.
3} Lately, I've been struggling with my purpose; including what I should do with my life. It's bad folks. Then, last week I watched Julie + Julia, and I admit that I nearly cried throughout the entire film. No, it's not a sad story, but I don't know another movie that I could relate more with. {My poor Mister.} And, yes - I LOVE to cook {especially French food}. When walking out of the theatre my Mister said, "Wow - that could be you. You are both of those ladies." Quietly I replied, "I know". So, I'm contemplating a similar challenge to get me out of my funk, but what?!?!
4} Ever since THIS post, I drink my morning beverage in a bowl.
5} I am an Army Wife and am completely proud of my Mister, but am terrified at "what being an Army Wife really means".
5} I love to sew, crochet, knit, cook and be wrapped up in the creative world, but currently work in a Finance Department.
6} I genuinely see the good in people.
7} I honestly believe that I personally know some of the most creative people in the world!!

Do I really need to explain? I can't imagine anyone not finding an element of beauty in the above photos. Today - I am inspired by dance. Actually, this weekend I was. No, I'm not a dancer and especially not a ballerina. Well, not in real life, that is. Because yes, I freely admit that I am a closet ballerina. I have a couple of roommates that can attest to that. My place of preference? The kitchen. It lends itself to such graceful movement. :) But, I'm not here to discuss my pretend dance world (or not entirely at least).

This weekend, I did some organization, moved some furniture (at which I'm quite pleased with), and even shopped for some home stuff. While organizing some boxes, I found a pair of ballet shoes. Not just any pair either...the shoes I wore at our wedding! As I said, no - I'm not a ballerina, nor did I ever take any class as a child. But, I have always had a dear love for the ballet, and particularly the beautify of the shoes. So, I wore ballet shoes and had our little "flower girls" be little "ballerinas". Oh so cute.

Finding these shoes filled me with delight. So, my dear creative friends....any idea of what I can do with these shoes?? I've thought about molding them or keeping them as is and putting them in our little girl's room (whenever we have one). Do you have any ideas?!

I blame a birthday party that I distinctly remember at age 6. {No, it wasn't mine.} After a variety of activities, game time was here. I cast the pink fishing pole over the sagging sheet. What would I win?! As I slowly pulled up the rod to reveal my prize, I squeezed my eyes together hoping for something delightful. And there it was; a little box full of perfectly long red glossy stick-on nails. All around the room little eyes gazed upon the oh-so-grown-up prize. My heart smiled.

Since then, I've equated beauty and "being grown up" with pretty nails. I have nails that I constantly try to hide. I'm positive that I couldn't be a hand model. Anyway - this "thought" has constantly made me aware of my nail imperfections. So, I'm constantly getting press on nails (no - I don't like to pay money for manicure after manicure. So - I do it myself). When the fake nails bug me, I opt for painting lovely colors.

And this, my friends, is what I'm talking about. What do you say about grey?!

Apparently this trend came to the forefront last fall. Where was I?! I completely missed it. Considering grey is my most favorite color {see my unfortunately one-toned house}, it would only seem natural to add it to my fingers.

So what do YOU say to grey?! Oui or Non?

What does Wednesday inspire? Well, for me: Healthy Eats. I know this book is not new, but I recently purchased it and think it's well worth it!! Of course, some of the content is common knowledge: fresh fruit is definitely a better choice than syrup saturated canned fruit. Duh. But, this book does more than that. It says, "fine - you want to buy canned fruit? Well, then choose this one..."
All-in-all my husband and I try to have pretty healthy food around the house. When possible we go organic or opt for certain alternatives (primarily because of Mister's food allergies). BUT...come on -- we definitely indulge at times. My Mister loves to "forget" his wheat/gluten/dairy allergies, etc. So, how can I help?! By purchasing a "frozen pizza" that is just a bit better than another version, or stocking up on Cheerios instead of Smart Start (What?! I know...that was a shocker for me.)

And since life seems to never slow down, I've been interested in "grocery help" services. My dear friend told me about: Amazon Fresh. She's had great success with their products. Though there's no need to have groceries delivered every week, the occasional delivery could ease a bunch of stress. I have still yet to try them. I've also heard of great local delivery services, as well. The idea of it seems a bit "out of reach" - like it would be too costly, but you would be surprised!!

Enjoy a healthy day and definitely take a little bit of time to indulge every once in awhile.

It may be a balancing act; it may be scary; it may be the unknown, but I'm embracing all of the change that Autumn is bringing. Even if it's not the change that I had 'planned for'. All I know is that there are great things ahead and I'm ready to face them. As pursuing further school seems a bit far off, I'm eager to find different ways to challenge myself in future months. Thanks to all for listening to me lately, as I seem eager to purge my base emotions. All I know is....I'm way too into pictures with big meaning behind them and THIS one is no exception!

...change.

You may be wondering what this lovely Crate and Barrel table has to do with change. But, please, let me explain. If you look closely - it's the same table being used in two different manners. Change. And if you notice, it capitalizes on kitchen and study. I'm here to update you on home and school -- a little personal update, if you will.

Where to begin: Study. As you may remember I was applying for an International MBA program. Well, folks - the program has been postponed. :( I received a call from the University, explaining that this was the first year of the program and they didn't generate enough interest; therefore, the program is postponed until next fall. All of the current students who have applied for it are booked for next year's program; however, they are also opening their doors to the traditional MBA program. So, do I want to wait an entire year for the perfect program or jump into something else? I'm thinking hard about what I want to do. But, admittedly had some baby tears in my eyes when I got the call. I was so excited about the prospect of it all.

Secondly: Home. Now, I know this will come as a shock to you. I'm still in shock. Actually - I'm just laughing about it all of the time. BUT, Mister and I are moving.....next door. Ha! I'm serious, peeps -- you just can't make this stuff up. Actually, it's not as bad as some may think, but it is all extremely funny. We currently live in a duplex (one bedroom tiny little abode). When we moved in, the other rental (with 2 bedrooms + a laundry room) was unavailable. Just recently it opened up and our landlords gave us priority. So, after much consideration and many laughs, we decided to jump on it. The house is still tiny-tiny and the 2nd bedroom will be tight, but it will be more space. It's definitely older and could use some serious TLC in the kitchen + bath, but I'm somewhat excited.

So there you have it! I thought I was starting a season of school, but instead it seems it's another season to move. Not too bad - in the last year and a half this will be our 4th move. Doesn't that thought just exhaust you!?! It sounds a bit like we're odd, but each one has an explanation (primarily marriage move and Military). I hope that this will be the last time I'm writing a post like this for a long time!!

Either way - I think the table above would be a perfect place for us to eat dinner in our new home and maybe even inspire some studying.

I have managed to feel quite French this week. It's really quite spectacular. :) Actually, if I may say, I think my French friend felt a bit French too! Even though we're in an American home, I find myself doing things that are typically French. It was really just this week though that I realized it. No wonder my poor American Mister is sometimes confused by my actions. Should I elaborate?

Setting the table: In regards to silverware, I place the Fork on the left, the Knife on the right and a small spoon just above of the plate - laying across toward the cup. (My Mister has often picked up the spoon confused. I was too 'involved' to really realize before.

The dinner: I strive to have good bread for certain meals and if passing them out, often place the piece on the table by Mister's plate. Poor man. He automatically, picks it back up and sets it on his plate. Also, the salad is served last. So, I will sometimes bring it to the table after he's finished his fish, zucchini and a bit of bread. It can be confusing, but I think I was subconsciously trying to 're-train' his eating habits. (Oh goodness, the things I realize through this blog. Eek.)

The dessert: After clearing a bit of the dishes, I gather a couple of fruits and yogurts. Take your pick Mister. Ah, now he realizes the reason for the spoon.

I may not be French (even though we have to whisper that this week, as I am pretending....). But, either way, I have certain inclinations -- thanks to my dear (almost) French Mom, my travels and my desperate need to pretend to be French. *Sigh*

*P.S. I have some updates to give about drinking out of bowls! I love how blogging can bring up memories, unite traditions and create an entire world of wonder. But, that will have to come later - becuase I am heading to take my friend to do something entirely American: BBQ at a Military Base.

I'm thinking that these colors would be the perfect compliment to my pale kitchen....
And by the looks of them, I gather I'm getting in the mood for autumn. What am I saying?! I'm always in the mood for autumn!!

Either way, I could sip some lovely coco from these bowls or my morning café even. What? Didn't I tell you I was pretending to be French this week?! It's true. So, sipping morning drinks from bowls would be quite perfect.

What's that you say....you're confused? Well, perhaps it's not entirely true of all les français, but one of my first memories in France was waking up to the smell of perfectly fresh bread and coffee served to me in a bowl. Countless times, I was served coffee in a bowl while visiting friends in France (but only in the morning). It's seems in the afternoon, a mug was the dish of choice.

Whether it be true of many or just the random luck of draw...there's something entirely soothing about taking your morning "hot" beverage in a bowl. I suspect that's why in the U.S. we now have over sized mugs.

It seems that tomorrow morning, I'll have to carry on the tradition (which I suspect is true)....And, if it's not true, then too bad. I guess my little kids will grow up thinking it is...and one day blog about how the French take their morning beverage in a bowl.

Bonjour Lovelies! Sorry that I have been a bit absent this past week. I hope to do better now. :) All is coming together for the application process for the International MBA program. Now I'm just praying that I'm not too late to submit as competition is tight. But, what will be, will be.

For now, I don't need to worry about that, but instead focus on "being French". A dear friend from France is visiting me this week. So, my language is getting all mixed up. For those of you who know me, I'm not the best at separating the two languages and often, French wins. It's fine, though, because my Mister told me that one day we could move there (and pretend to be French)....so, it's best he's exposed and starts learning to communicate!

I'm sure that this week will be filled to the brim with lovely sentences and lots of touring. And....I'll be able to start marking off some items on my Seattle Bucket List.

Perhaps it's the fact that Fall is around the corner, and inevitably, when autumn comes, I crave bouquets of sharpened pencils. I crave fresh, untouched paper and the smell of old books. Yes, I must admit, that I crave school. {Or the idea of it at least.....cause admittedly, school is not on my list of most favorite things. But, the idea of it....?! Well, the idea of it is magical.}

What does this mean for me? Well friends - this week I'm applying for an MBA program. The classes will push me a bit, but that's what I'm hoping for. So here it goes! I'm praying I get in....since I am waiting to the last minute to apply.

This week has been challenging. I think that's okay to admit. Though work has been good, life itself has felt a bit bombarding. I have so much to be grateful though - one of which is amazing friends!! When I came home this evening, I was greeted by a box. More specifically a 'surprise gift' from my dear friend, Jennifer!

She's so dear to me {and not just because of the gift}. We met 10 years ago next month! {Wait, really? Is that right....oh, no! Haha. Umm...we met 9 years ago, but really it feels like we've known each other forever.} We were neighbors as young freshmen. She made University completely wonderful and has shown true friendship effortlessly. Living in Tulsa, the last time we saw each other was at my wedding. Missing her is unfortunately common, but today she felt a bit closer!

She thought of everything!! In the box was an apron, pashmina, earrings, another addition for my Pandora bracelet, and even a recently produced CD of a friend of ours.

This week has not only been hectic {notice my lack of blogging}, but it's been hot! Seattle is experiencing record breaking heat. Awesome. Ha! Luckily, it's supposed to calm down after this weekend. {fingers crossed....} Either way, people are enjoying the sun and accessible water. Speaking of, my dear Mister, even joined a bunch of his fellow soldiers today for some kayaking and biking.

I think today would be the perfect day to sneak away. Never mind work and life responsibilities. I could sneak out when someone turns their head or closes their eyes for a seasonal sneeze. {And pouf, she's gone!} I've been whisked away to a far away land. It's so beautiful that it feels like a dream.

When I open my eyes, I am greeted by a whimsical canopy of weightless linens.

I take a deep breath. When I finally step out of bed my eyes fill with delight as I see the view. Yes, it's true - I'm overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Stepping outside, I'm immediately overcome with the pure morning air. Even my coffee tastes better here.

I think I'll curl up on this ghost couch and marvel at the wonders of Elizabeth, because truly, a dose of Pride & Prejudice is the perfect compliment to a lazy afternoon.

...Laughter.

I have this friend {Krystal}....well, she's more than a friend really. Our first {real} conversation consisted of her telling me, that "I was a mystery". Ha! Me?! :) Perhaps I do have trouble disclosing my whole life. That sentence though, was the start of a wonderful friendship. Several years later, we became roommates {I'm sure all mystery was out the door by then}. A year and a half after that, I was the maid of honor in her wedding and fell for the Best Man. And, yes, a year a half later, I married the "best man"!

Krystal is an inspiration to so many people! She has the most unique ability to recognize need, and serve; to pay attention to details, and give accordingly; to find laughter in everything. I've learned so much from her, one of which includes stopping and paying attention to obviously funny things, that are often over looked. A while back, Krystal started a blog, Pic Your Words. The blog is updated sporadically as her life is crazy with work, school, serving others and being an incredible wife, but it's still a joy to visit. This last weekend, I took another look and laughed again at the comedy. Here's a taste....

I love tarts {as you know}. Fillings can be sweet or savory - they are all good. And, especially perfect for the summer {if made light}. It has been nearly a year, since I reminisced on a delicious memory in France...specifically Normandie. And today, the craving hit me again. I am craving a "lunch tart". Perfect flavors consisting of tomatoes and Swiss with a hint of Dijon, sitting in a delicate and flaky crust. Yes that's what I crave! Hmm...

Here's what I did last time....

I made some pate brisee.....but, maybe this weekend I'll use my other crust recipe!

Then added some {good} dijon!

Followed that with some Swiss, Tomatoes, Basil {cause I like the basil baked in...though keep some for fresh garnishing} and Parmesan.

Add my favorite plate! This French vintage beauty was passed down to my from my lovely and thoughtful maman {mom}!

After baking on 350 for about 35 minutes.....

Guess I know what Mister is getting for his next meal. ;)

Sometimes I fear that we may have to move from here, without really experiencing "here". I'm a planner, but coincidentally, sometimes act as if time will stand still. "I can always plan to visit places another time." Life has taught me, however, that change is inevitable. And, being a military wife has taught me that change is quick. We love where we live (and who knows, maybe we'll stay here a long time), but in order to take advantage of this gorgeous place, I've created a Seattle Bucket List. Some of things I've done, and I want to continue to experience them; others, will be a new treat.

To commence this new {active} venture, Mister and I are going to enjoy all of the events leading up to Seafair. This weekend is full of activities in and around Seattle. Here are a few we hope to visit!

As you {may} know, we recently moved. This has struck a 'create / decor / organize' nerve in me. I'm anxious to get painting. After finding a couple of colors and splashing them around our little space, we may have found the paint. But, on to more depth. What I really want....is wallpaper! I know, right?! Crazy. Hello....we rent. One could say, "It's not happening. Be happy that you can paint". But, I personally don't like that answer.

Last week, I scouted out contact paper, thinking I could make a temporary solution. All I want to know, is where was I when the Tempaper buzz was going around?! Apparently not within ear shot. Fear not though, I stumbled upon this ideal solution (particularly for renters). Tempaper offers a variety of removable / temporary paper (thus the name)!!!! Yay for us. I saw some other temporary papers from a few locations, but not nearly the stock options.

I'm seeing some design in my near future. Hmm. Though the selection is limited, I will not push my luck any further and will be happy with the choices.

What do you think?! Should we be so daring?

{DIY update}

Well, I did it. My version anyway. I wanted to go with the whole frame thing...to mimic THIS, but had all of these materials hanging around. And, in effort to get this project done (at least for now) I thought I'd put everything together. I'm thinking of painting the embroidery hoop, but we'll see. The project was so fast, I even had time to make some more earings (see above). They hang proudly around my fave rosette earings from UO. Love how it looks - and once this drab wall is painted, I'm sure to love it even more.

Also - a little update on our 'plants'. Remember me talking about them HERE? Well,they've been repotted and are happy and healthy. The Boise sun did them some good. The tomato plant is even producing fruit. Yay!

I just dropped Mister off at the airport. The last time he got on a plane was to go far, far away from me for a very long time. The memories flooded back this morning when saying au revoir. Luckily for this trip (and for his/my sake), he'll just be in Texas...having the time of his life! If I squint hard enough, I may see his plane take off in a bit.

I'm feeling quite inspired by the casual romantic feeling portrayed in Rachel Whiting's photography. And today, I'd be quite happy to adopt any of these rooms into my home.

Apparently I can't stop just at the coffee table... My mind obviously needs to purge a bit more things I've come across. I love paper towels. (Can I admit that publicly right now?!) Either way, I do...but, these great un-paper towels from Athena Creates are a much better solution. Plus, look how pretty they look...like from my grandmothers house. I think they'd definitely add some 'practical' whimsy to my weekend {especially if I had them hanging up on a clothes line}.

I have an overload of things on my mind, but in effort to slow down and gather my thoughts - I thought I'd share my new favorite piece of furniture (instead of listing a bunch of other things I want)! Besides, it feels good to stop and appreciate what you have sometimes.

I found this coffee table at a fabulous antique shop when visiting friends and family on our recent vacation. My dear friend, Kirsten (of SimplyGrove) motivated my purchase...and I can't thank her enough!

Of course, I have to have a disclaimer about the majority of the photo. Remember we just moved! :) One of the couches will be moved out this weekend, lamps, boxes and other such random things are still filling corners. Pillows are not set. I love the rug - which is now in our bedroom. And feel free to take note of the most recent glassybaby I acquired. (Isn't she lovely?) :)

Anyway...what do you think about the table?

{DIY Inspiration}

I have been searching for a unique way to store my earings. With limited counter space, ideally I need something that can hang. I've come close to purchasing several things, but was never quite satsified. That is...until now! I love the above solution. It's unique, clever and beautiful. But..the price is not what I'm wanting to spend. So, I'm thinking it could be a great DIY inspiration since I have a majority of the needed items around my home. What do you think?!
